My Nights with You by Adalyn Caine book review

Hi there Wottareaders, here is my review of My Nights with You, a novel written by author Adalyn Caine.

This is the story of Sela, a woman who has to deal with depression. Together with this, she’s been in a toxic relationship for quite a long term, and this has affected her drastically.

However, one day she will meet another man, and her life will be brand new.

This was a well-written story that depicts the highs and lows of life. While this novel seems to focus a bit more on the low part, there’s also room for some joy in this story.

More than enjoyable, if you like romance novels then you will have a great time reading this one.

New Fantasy Book 2020: The Sapphire Eruption

This new fantasy book was released in January 2020 and it’s the first volume of four planned volumes. A high fantasy story told from the perspective of different characters. Looking for magic, humor, a bit of politics, strong and independent women or LGBT characters? you are lucky, this book series has all of that, and much more.

This story is part Harry Potter, part Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) so if you love those series you definitely must take a look at this new fantasy book series. Also, if you like The Kingkiller Chronicle or Lightbringer then you will like this new fantasy series.

Did I mention that the main character of this series has a sword of fire?

The Sapphire Eruption is the first volume in the Sword’s Choice series. A medieval fantasy saga unfolding in a harsh and vengeful world.  It is a story of ambition and resolve set in an environment where the heat of fire is countered by the cool tides of water—a world that will remind Noakh every day that whatever happens he must never surrender his destiny.

A new fantasy book in 2020: What is the Sapphire Eruption about?

Four kingdoms located around The Void. Four sacred weapons, each infused with the power of one of the elements—fire, water, air, earth.

These four weapons allow Alomenta’s four kingdoms to maintain a delicate balance. But the world’s tense harmony is soon to be tested.

In a lost village, Noakhail arduously trains to learn the art of the sword.  He remains unaware that when he was a baby, on the day the sky turned red, he was chosen by one of the two sacred fire swords to be the Ascendant Phoenix, heir to Firia, the fire kingdom.

Until now Noakh has lived with Lumio, his stepfather, as an outcast in the Aquadom, the queendom of water.  But now that he is mature enough his stepfather reveals to him who he is—and that the time has come to return to Firia and claim the throne.

But even as Noakh sets out to claim his destiny, in the castle of the Aquadom, a coterie of young princesses dutifully perform the water-sword ritual day after day: one day the sword will choose which of them will be the Lacrima, the rightful heiress to the water throne. Everyone knows that such an honor will fall to the older sister, Katienne; after all, she is just like her mother, the queen. But will she be the sword’s choice?

Particularities of The Sword’s Choice: What makes this new fantasy series from all the others released in 2020 different?

Let’s see some particularities of this story that you will find interesting:

The world of Alomenta is a place where the color of the skin is not relevant, but the color of the eyes and the hair.

As said before, in this story there are four kingdoms (or better said, three kingdoms and one queendom). In these territories, the citizens not only behave differently but their appearance is different: the citizens of each of these kingdoms have their eye and their hair of a different color.

For example, the citizens of the queendom of Water, the Aquadom (where the first book in the series is set), have blue eyes and blond hair.

That’s something Noakhail knows very well. His brown eyes stand out too much in a blue-eyed queendom. As would his black hair if he didn’t dye it blond.

This is a story of motivation set in a medieval fantasy scenario

The name of one of the main characters, Noakhail, means “do not give up”. As a result, the boy will remember that he must keep fighting no matter what. He only has to remember his name.

A brief summary of what this new fantasy book has and doesn’t

This is a high fantasy story, and as well as most fantasy book releases of 2020 this tale has the most usual components of the genre. Here you have a good summary of what this book has and what doesn’t:

Will you read this new fantasy book? Remember that you can read this ebook for free if you have Kindle Unlimited. What other fantasy books released in 2020 will you read? Leave a comment.

A Little Hatred the new novel by Joe Abercrombie

Great news for all the fans of Jon Abercrombie and his high fantasy saga The First Law. His new book, a Little Hatred, will be released later this same year 2019.

What is A Little Hatred about?

A Little Hatred is the first volume of a new trilogy set in the same world as Abercrombie’s acclaimed saga The First Law. This upcoming trilogy is known as The Age of Madness, and the first novel, A Little Hatred, will take place 20 years after the original saga.

Luckily for all the fans, this new trilogy will have new characters but at the same time, old faces will make their appearance in this new story.

Not a lot of this new arch is known, but here’s a little excerpt from the author’s website:

“The age of the machine dawns, but the age of magic refuses to die. With the help of the mad hillwoman Isern-i-Phail, Rikke struggles to control the blessing, or the curse, of the Long Eye. Glimpsing the future is one thing, but with the guiding hand of the First of the Magi still pulling the strings, changing it will be quite another…”

Seems it’s time for machines to awaken.

Book cover

The book cover has already been revealed as the author published it on his website (see here).

A Little Hatred book cover

As you might have realized this book cover is quite different from the style used in both his saga and Stand-alone novels which showed a parchment cover. Do you like this new style? As the author himself states, seems that this format could not be developed further. Instead, they decided to move on and show a cover that relates more to this book’s premise: an industrial age.

Update: this book cover was used in the UK, while in the United States the book cover was completely different

This is probably because of the difference of both markets. Here is the US Book cover for a Little Hatred:

A Little Hatred book cover USA

So different aren’t they? Even so, both book covers look really cool. The American version looks a bit more darker, while the English one emanates some kind of hope.

In my opinion, the English version looks way more unique. The American version, despite looking astonishingly good, is more like a standar book cover for a dark fantasy story.

Just an opinion, of course.

Which is your favorite? the American or the English version? Don’t forget to share and give us your opinion about your favorite book cover, I like to know what are your thoughts!

A Little Hatred release date

As Joe Abercrombie stated on both his Twitter account and his website, A Little Hatred will be published in the UK on September 19th and in the Us on September 17th.

Regarding the novels that follow a Little Hatred, which are The Trouble of Peace and  The Beautiful Machine, those will be published in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

The last Tolkien book: The fall of Gondolin

The Fall of Gondolin is the latest book posthumously published by the author J.R.R Tolkien, all thanks to his son, Christopher Tolkien who edited this novel as he has done with other previous works such as The Silmarillion.

Actually, The Fall of Gondolin is one of the tales included in The Silmarillion, and therefore being one of the Lost Tales it was also included in Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth collection stories.  This time, however, it is published as a stand-alone novel and even though the essential story is the same, in this version it is more detailed and also the book comes with Alan Lee’s illustrations.

What is the Fall of Gondolin about?

The novel’s title summarizes pretty well that this novel is about. This book narrates the story of the secret elven city of Gondolin which lays in the middle of a conflict of the forces of light, lead by the powerful Vala named Ulmo, and the forces of evil lead by Morgoth (also known as Melkor). Morgoth is the first Dark Lord, a title given only to the two most powerful overlords in the Middle Earth, being Sauron the second to be granted such an honorable title.

Just so you understand the epicness of the story, Sauron was a mere servant of Morgoth. Such was the power of the first Dark Lord, whose desire was to lord over the First Age of the Middle Earth.

Do I need to read previous Tolkien works in order to read The Fall of Gondolin?

Given that this book is set in the same universe as The Lord of the Rings, reading the previous works by the author like The Hobbit and the three novels comprising LOTR would be recommended. Nonetheless, this story takes place in a different Era and in a different location than the original saga, so having read LOTR is not a must. Well, reading The Lord of The rings should be a must for everyone who likes to read in general, but you know what I mean.

When will the Fall of Gondolin be published?

This book was published on 30 August 2018 so it is already available for you to purchase and read.

The Secret Commonwealth, The Book of Dust volume 2

Hello Wottareaders, great news for those who all those who are fond of Phillip Pullman’s work. The Secret Commonwealth, the long-awaited second volume of The Book of Dust trilogy, is coming out soon! Let’s know more about Philip Pullman’s new book, this upcoming novel will be published soon.

What is The Book of Dust?

The Book of Dust trilogy is an expansion of the most acclaimed fantasy series by Phillip Pullman: His Dark Materials. The first novel of The Book of Dust trilogy, La Belle Sauvage, is set twelve years before the first book of His Dark Materials.

You might have noticed that I haven’t said that The Book of Dust trilogy is a prequel despite the fact that as previously said is connected to His Dark Materials trilogy. The Book of Dust first novel, La Belle Sauvage, being set years before the original series. There is a reason for that, this series is actually not a prequel, as Phillip Pullman himself stated:

“In fact, The Book of Dust is… an ‘equel’. It doesn’t stand before or after His Dark Materials, but beside it. It’s a different story, but there are settings that readers of His Dark Materials will recognise, and characters they’ve met before.”

An equel then, as the author says. As you see The Book of Dust saga takes place before, meanwhile and after His Dark Materials events, quite an interesting approach.

What is The Secret Commonwealth about

Like the original trilogy, the story of The Book of Dust centers on Lyra Belacqua (also known as Lyra Silvertongue). While in the first novel, La Belle Sauvage, Lyra is a baby who will be protected by Alice and her dæmon,  in the second volume Lyra is already 20 years old.

In The Secret Commonwealth Lyra will travel with her daemon Pantalaimon and other companions across Europe and Asia,  searching for a city haunted by dæmons. As you see, the second volume takes of The Book of Dust trilogy takes place after the events in His Dark Materials. This is why before reading this second book you might want to read Lyra’s Oxford. This is a short novel telling the story of Lyra Belacqua being 15 years old, that is, two years after the end of the original trilogy and at the same chronologically preceding the events occurring in The Secret Common Wealth.

The Secret Commonwealth release date

If you are wondering when The Book of Dust volume 2 will be released here you have the answer, The Secret Commonwealth will be published on 3 October 2019.
