The first novel of his new series,  A Little Hatred, was recently published, and you should read it if you haven’t yet.

What is this series about?

The First Law is a medieval fantasy series written by Joe Abercrombie. Initially, this series consisted only of a trilogy and therefore it was pretty easy to know the proper reading order but the British author wrote also three stand-alone novels set in the same world. If that was not enough, the first book of Abercrombie’s new trilogy was published in September 2019 and it’s called A Little Hatred.

In this story, you will meet well developed characters, this is not the usual tale where the world is divided between good and evil people. This series shows how everyone has a dark side, and nobody here is uncorrupted.

The Fist Law books surely are a great introduction to immerse yourself into a grimdark journey, are you ready for it?

Let’s know a bit more about this series

The Legend of Drizzt is a fantasy series by the American author R.A Salvatore. This series tells the story of  Drizzt Do’Urden, a drow (or a dark elf) who decides not to follow the evil way of his people and leaving the Underdark (the place below the surface where drows and other dark creatures dwell). Drizzt books are based in the Forgotten Realms setting in the dimension of Abeir-Toril.

Besides of giving you The Legend of Drizzt reading order, here you have some info about Drizzt:

Did you know…

Drizzt Do’Urden made his first appearance as a sidekick character in the Icewind Dale series. His popularity grew and as a result R.A Salvatore started writing the Drizzt book series.

What are Drizzt swords?

Drizzt Do’Urden uses two scimitars (sabres with a curved blade). At first he used two unnamed scimitars forged by the Durigar dark dwarves these two swords were made of adamantine and both broke when he left the Underdark.

After this, he gets two new Scimitars: Icingdeath and Twinkle. Icindeath protects the wielder against fire, while Twinkle emits a blue hue when held.

How did Drizzt get Guenhwyvar?

Guenhwyvar is a black panther who resides on the Astral plane. It can be summoned using an onyx figurine.

This figurine was owned by Masoj Hun’ett, who instructed Drizzt in the magical arts. Eventually, Drizzt and Guenhwyvar became friends. Drizzt got the figurine after defeating Masoj.

How old is Drizzt?

This character is 140 years old, his birthday date is unknown.

The Witcher books in order: what
is the correct order of The Witcher books?

There is much controversy on what is the correct The Witcher reading order. In my opinion, the one that makes more sense is to th read the Witcher books in chronological order (with one exception).

The saga begins with two short story books, after this come the novels, they subsequently end with a prequel. Some might think short stories are not needed in order to read not considering them part of the book series, this is not the case, the short stories not only introduce a lof of characters, it is also here where the bond between Ciri and Geralt begins. So make sure you read these too or you will miss a lot!

So, here you have The Witcher books in order. You can buy The Witcher books clicking on their covers, the links will take you to Amazon to purchase them (or you can check The Witcher book set that I recommend in the next section):

I know, it may sound odd recommending reading the prequel the last one. There is a reason for this, it is true that chronologically it is the first book in The Witcher series, but if you read the other books first you will understand its plot way better. This is only a recommendation of course. By the way, this book is not necessary to understand the overall story, but if you read the rest you will surely want to know more about the witcher’s story.

The Witcher reading order: the coolest The witcher 7 book set

Now that you know the The Witcher reading order you will probably want to buy Andrzej Sapkowski ‘s novels. If you think getting the seven books is too much here you have this alternative The Witcher book set which collects the first three The Witcher books in the series:

The Witcher games in order

I know this post is about The Witcher book order, but maybe you want to play the videogames developed by CD Projekt Red? if so, here you have the three The Witcher games in order:

  • The Witcher.
  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Also, make sure you play the expansion sets because they are awesome and are totally worth the price.

Do you might be wondering the following question now: do you have to play the witcher games in order

Should I play the Witcher games in order?

There is no need to play the Witcher games in order, of course it will be help you understand the story better. But each of the videogames narrate a standalone story (oppositedly to the books, which is why you actually need to read The Witcher novels in order, so you can enjoy any of them.

And please, play The Witcher expansion sets, they are impressively good.

Who translated The Witcher books?

As you know, the original books are written in Polish. The Witcher series was translated by:

Danusia Stok: Last Wish, Blood of Elves.

David French: Sword of Destiny, Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of Swallows, Lady of the Lake.

Make sure you read this story and learn everything about Geralt of Rivia before watching the Witcher on Netflix! If you like worlds full of fantasy, action and witty dialogues you will love this series. Learn more about Ciri and about Yennefer, you might know them already if you played The Witcher 3: Wild hunt. Here you will learn about their past, this is the story of how Geralt and Ciri know each other.

How old is Geralt?

Geralt of Rivia is around ninety years old. Having said this, his age is not the reason his hair is white but this is a consequence of being subjected to the Trial of Grasses, which is also the reason he looks younger than he should according to his age.

About The Witcher

The Witcher video games have been a huge success. The third game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is the most successful of all. It won the  Game of the year award in 2015 (Golden Joystick Awards”, “Game Developers Choice Awards” and “The Game Awards), a prestigious award  given by various gaming publications to a video game that they feel represents the pinnacle of video gaming that year. If that was not enough, it is also considered by tons of fans as the best video game in this Console generation. Its developer, CD Projekt Red, couldn’t be happier, because the figures of this game series have already exceeded the thirty-three million copies sold.

The Witcher is an action role-playing game based on the novel series of The Witcher by polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The story is set in a medieval fantasy world telling the story of the witcher Geralt of Rivia, monster slayer with unnatural abilities like the power of the signs (considered simple magic spells by mages) or accelerated healing. These incredible powers are thanks to both his extensive training and the mysterious ritual that is performed in order to become a witcher.

If this was not enough, is going to be also a TV series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix.

The Witcher books reading order

The witcher books gif
Book covers

Thanks to these games, the witcher novels have gained more notoriety. People want to know more about Geralt of Rivia and his companions, could there be a better way than reading these fantastic series? Nope. The book’s plot happens years before the stories in the video games, it could be considered somehow a prequel, so reading is a perfect way to learn more about this wonderful world and its charismatic characters.

Whether your hobbies include both video games like reading fantasy books and you didn’t know anything about this saga, The Witcher is a great way to complement both worlds.  As I have already said, the video games are a sequel of the books, meaning that a good approach would be to read books and then play the video games (this is what I did by the way, and worked great), thus understanding better the plot and characters that appear. This way you would enjoy the most this literary saga which finds an astonishing sequel in the world of video games.

In case you already played the video games, I won’t spoil you anything, but you will be shocked more than once even so. Also, you will understand a lot of references to the books made during the game (it’s full of them!)

Why should you read the Witcher novels?

The witcher books

The Witcher is a great literary saga, the plot of the books is certainly fascinating. The series revolves around Ciri, a girl tied to the witcher by fate. Its protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, has a very special charisma, which makes the dialogues being spicy and fun.

Many of the characters have a unique personality that makes them very attractive. One of my favorite characters is Yennefer, a very powerful sorceress . The relationship between Geralt and his troubadour friend Dandelion (or Jaskier) is really inspiring, something that in my opinion you don’t get such  impression while playing the video games.

Are the Witcher books worth reading?

If you’ve already played video games or intend to do so, these books will provide much information on both the world and the characters depth. In addition, the game makes constant references to previous events that took place in the books. Therefore you will enjoy much more both formats if you read them before.

What reading level are The Witcher books?

The Witcher is a grimdark series and is targeted for adults. This series has sex scenes and lots of violence. As a result, this series is not appropiate for kids. Teenagers instead, depending on their maturity, will enjoy The Witcher books.

Now that you know The Witcher reading order , it’s time to start reading! you have no excuses anymore I’m afraid, so check the list once again to make sure you got the short stories first and let’s start reading The Witcher series, you will not regret.

So, have you decided to read The Witcher books? Great! thanks to this post you know where to start reading The Witcher books and also you are able buy The Witcher books, amazing isn’t it?

This series is one of the most famous fantasy series right now thanks to the videogames. But Harry Potter keeps being the most popular series, in case you haven’t read this series yet here you have The Harry Potter series in order.

How did you know about The Witcher books? was it thanks to the videogames developed by CD Projekt Red or maybe because of the Netflix adaptation? or maybe none of those and you just knew about The Witcher book series, leave a comment telling us how you discovered this amazing fantasy series!

The King Killer chronicles reading order, let`s know a bit more

Now that you know The King Killer chronicles reading order, let’s talk ab bit more about this fantasy series. You probably have heard about this saga already. The Kingkiller Chronicle is probably the most popular fantasy series right now.  both lots of fans and critics consider this saga the heir of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) books. Not because these stories are similar, they truly aren’t at all in fact, but because these novels by Patrick Rothfuss are expected to turn into a media phenomenon.

The books are of course already best sellers. That’s not all, these novels are not getting a Tv series like A Song of Ice and Fire did, or a movie adaptation like Mortal Engines, or “just” a video-game series as The Witcher. No, The Kingkiller Chronicle didn’t have to make such a choice, because it is getting all of it! movies/series/video-game, multiplatform experience. Yes, the full pack.

As you see, quite a big deal. Books have already a passionate fan base, and the potential to reach to reach a whole new audience with all these adaptations.

I just love the way the author, Patrick Rothfuss, shared this news on his webpage, let me show you a small fragment:

Then Lionsgate got in touch. “About that whole TV-show-and-a-movie thing you mentioned,” they said. “If we’re going to do some sort of big narratively intertwined multi-platform development deal based on your books, wouldn’t it make more sense to do a video game along with the TV show and movies? Because seriously, why wouldn’t we want to do a video game too?” (I’m paraphrasing a little here you understand.)

I said, “What?”

The films will cover the book’s story while the tv series will be a prequel. I will write about this in detail in “To the big screen” though, let’s focus on the books right now.

What is The Kingkiller Chronicle about?

This series genre is Heroic Fantasy. As advanced in the post books like Kingkiller Chronicle this saga tells the story of Kvothe, a retired legendary hero who will narrate his life adventure to Chronicler (a scribe). The book is structured so it’s the same Kvothe who tells his own story, while there are certain interludes where the interaction between Kvothe and Chronicler is described. Kvothe tells with delightful detail how his life was from his childhood to present.

The KingKiller chronicles reading order

The story is set in the fantastic world of Temerant. While the story is crude and compelling, the characters are powerfully built, and the action is truly convincing. I love the pace and flow in each chapter, the story is so engaging you really wish Kvothe to succeed! The author made a great work, the writing is a subtle combination of power and beauty.

The book is really accessible, so not only fantasy readers will love this, there is no need to be into medieval fantasy genre to enjoy this book. I

Does The Kingkiller Chronicle have romance?

Yes, The Kingkiller Chronicles has a bit of romance. The love sublplot centers mainly in the figure of Denna, a homeless girl who will become  the main romantic interest of Kvothe.

So yes, if you are looking for a fantasy story with a slight touch of romance, this series fits your interests.

Why is Kingkiller Chronicle so popular? is The Name of the Wind worth reading?

This is a compelling story with a charismatic main character. The fact that it’s the same Kvothe who tells his own story makes it somehow intriguing and makes you wonder what happened in order to make this talended in everything boy become the owner of a tavern.

This series gets good since the beginning, The Name of the Wind will make you turn pages like crazy. So yes, The Name of the Wind is worth reading, you have to read this story for sure.

How long is The Kingkiller Chronicle? is it finished?

The King Killer Chronicle is a trilogy. The first two novels are already published while the third and last book has no release date yet. So for those wondering if the Kingkiller Chronicles is finished the answer is no, still not complete.

The king killer chronicle reading order
The king killer chronicle book covers

Regarding the last volume of the series, there is no release date yet for The Doors of Stone.

This book series have already sold over ten million copies and the two first novels in the trilogy are of course Bestsellers.

Here are some awards achieved by the author and his novels:

  • Quill Award (2007)
  • “Best Books of the Year” (2007) – Publishers Weekly–
  • NPR Top 100 Science-Fiction, Fantasy Books (2011)
  • Ranked 3rd in “Best 21st Century Fantasy Fiction Novels” (2012) –Locus–

How has The Kingkiller Chronicle been received by critics?

The critics are in general positive, all of them praise the author and his manuscripts:

I was reminded of Ursula LeGuin, George R. R. Martin, and J. R. R. Tolkien, but never felt that Rothfuss was imitating anyone. Like the writers he clearly admires, he’s an old-fashioned storyteller working with traditional elements, but his voice is his own. I haven’t been so gripped by a new fantasy series in years. It’s certain to become a classic.”
The London Times

“No ordinary fantasy full of pointless quests and overblown drama. Rather, it is a finely tuned coming-of-age story, full of humor, action and the occasional dose of magic.”

San Francisco Chronicle

“Writers like George R.R. Martin and Gene Wolfe are old hands at revitalizing old tropes, giving fantasy the depth and humanity of the great literary novels, but Rothfuss sets out to retell what should be the most familiar tale of all, in the most familiar mode (the triple-decker). Remarkably, he does make it fresh again in this opening book, complete with an interesting take on magic that adds both emotional impact and intellectual excitement. So bring on volume two!”
